Health Unit Clerk

It takes a variety of individuals and various disciplines to make sure that people receive quality medical care. We also offer a program that trains students to perform clerical and administrative duties related to health care.

Entrance Requirements

The requirements for our health unit clerk program are a Grade 12 Diploma or a mature student, English language proficiency, and a passing score on an aptitude test administered by CHN College. Candidates must be 18 years or older with a clear current criminal and child abuse registry check and successfully undergo an admission interview.

Goals and Objectives

Graduates of the program acquire the required knowledge and skills to perform the role of a health unit clerk effectively. Students understand the roles and responsibilities of a health unit clerk, including maintaining patient and unit records, processing physician orders, transcribing diagnostic and laboratory tests and scheduling procedures, and performing basic office administration duties, including managing unit supplies. They learn to function effectively as members of a health care team and to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. Additionally, they acquire problem-solving skills that allow them to work efficiently and in a safe manner.
